Floating wind: French ports equipped to target 6 GW in service by 2040
Announced on 31 July 2026, the results of the France 2030 call for projects fund the adaptation of port infrastructure.
On 31 July 2026, the Government announced the results of the call for projects dedicated to financing port infrastructure for the development of floating wind, under France 2030.
France has set out its ambition to become one of the European and global leaders in floating wind, with a target of close to 6 GW in service by 2040. Reaching that target requires French ports to be able to host this new industrial activity.
The call for projects, launched in 2024, aims to put in place the conditions for hosting float manufacturing and assembly sites, as well as the activities of integrating turbines onto those floats.
The investments mainly concern the construction or modification of quays, hardstanding areas and access routes, in order to adapt them to the sizes of the very large components characteristic of floating wind.
The aim is to enable French ports to supply future French and international wind farms with competitive offers, across the Atlantic-Channel and Mediterranean seaboards, in line with the national port strategy reaffirmed in February 2025.
