On 10 July 2026, Enedis and RTE presented the results of the third season of CUBE FLEX, the competition dedicated to electrical flexibility in commercial buildings.
The main finding comes down to a single figure: 10% of the electrical energy consumed was shifted out of the most expensive hours, morning and evening, throughout the year.
The scheme is based on a simple principle: rather than reducing total consumption, the aim is to move it in time, in response to price signals or signs of stress on the grid. Commercial buildings have the thermal inertia and controllable equipment to do so.
This mechanism corresponds exactly to the logic of consumption that has become more dynamic: the moments when electricity is abundant and cheap no longer coincide with the historical reference points, as solar power grows in the generation mix.
For grid operators, every megawatt shifted reduces the need for infrastructure reinforcement. For occupants, it translates into a lower bill for the same level of service.
