Data4, the first data centre operator to sign a long-term nuclear contract

On 4 September 2025, Data4, a European data centre operator, and EDF announced the signature of a Nuclear Production Allocation Contract with a term of twelve years.
Data4 becomes the first data centre operator in France to conclude this type of contract with EDF. The agreement allocates to the company a 40 MW share of the operating nuclear fleet's capacity, with costs and risks shared on the volumes actually generated.
First deliveries are scheduled from 2026, for a forecast annual volume of around 230 GWh.
This contract complements long-term solar and wind power purchase agreements, known as PPAs, already contracted by the operator.
The combination is revealing of the procurement strategy of digital players: backing a decarbonised dispatchable generation base with renewable contracts, in order to cover a consumption profile that is almost constant across the year.
