EDF and Mistral: five years of AI applied to nuclear engineering and maintenance

On 28 May 2026, EDF and Mistral announced the signature of a partnership agreement covering artificial intelligence in support of engineering, maintenance and the construction of the future EPR2 reactors.
Concluded for a term of five years, this partnership aims to develop and deploy artificial intelligence tools adapted to the Group's safety, industrial performance and regulatory requirements.
The data governance framework is explicit: the data will remain EDF's property and will be hosted on trusted infrastructure, either sovereign cloud or an EDF data centre.
The partnership provides in particular for training conversational agents able to query the "technical memory" accumulated across all activities of the French nuclear fleet and EDF's construction sites, in compliance with safety and sovereignty requirements.
The stated aim is to provide concrete support to field teams, enabling them to gain in responsiveness and operational performance — an industrial use of AI applied to decades of technical documentation.
