Regulated tariffs: the CRE proposes an average increase of 2.5% including tax from 1 August 2026

Announced on 16 July 2026, this change represents around €26 including tax per year for average consumption of 4.5 MWh.

On 16 July 2026, the French Energy Regulatory Commission proposed a change in the average level of regulated electricity sales tariffs of +2.5% including tax from 1 August 2026.

The level of the regulated sales tariffs (TRVE) is determined using the cost-stacking methodology, split into three main blocks: the tariff for the use of public electricity networks (TURPE), electricity procurement and taxes — excise duty, the CTA levy and VAT.

This change results from several movements. The TURPE increases in accordance with the CRE's decision of 21 May 2026. The capacity component rises with the incorporation of the new capacity mechanism, replacing the previous one, and the first auction held on 6 July 2026.

The CRE proposes to cover the residual balance of the former mechanism in the February 2027 movement, at the same time as the other adjustments in respect of 2026 outturn. Working in the opposite direction, the excise duty on electricity falls from 1 August 2026 for customers with a subscribed capacity of 36 kVA or less, from €30.85 to €30.62/MWh.

The net effect amounts to around +€5.98 including tax per MWh, i.e. an increase of around €26 including tax per year for average consumption of 4.5 MWh: the bill rises from €1,046 to €1,072 including tax. As at 31 March 2026, 19.37 million residential customers were on the regulated sales tariffs in continental mainland France.
