Transition(s) 2050 season 2: ADEME updates its scenarios with RTE and the OFB

On 16 June 2026, ADEME announced the relaunch of its foresight exercise, with a view to updating its carbon neutrality scenarios, publication of which is planned for the end of the year.
The first exercise, Transition(s) 2050 season 1, published between 2021 and 2024, had helped inform the development of the third national low-carbon strategy.
Two new features characterise this update. First, a partnership approach, set up with RTE, NaTran, the Foundation for Biodiversity Research, the French Biodiversity Office, Inria and CEREMA, whose expertise complements ADEME's.
Second, a territorial approach, which will make it possible to illustrate how the scenarios translate concretely at various scales.
This partnership choice is not incidental: involving the electricity transmission system operator in an energy foresight exercise makes it possible to test consumption trajectories against the physical constraints of delivery.
The exercise comes as France launches a National Electrification Plan, whose feasibility depends directly on the ability of the grids to keep pace.
