EDF mobilises €240 million for heat pumps and electric heavy goods vehicles

On 8 April 2026, to mark its 80th anniversary, EDF announced the deployment of €240 million to accelerate electrification in France, directly and through a support fund open to other partners.

The first strand concerns residential heating. A flat-rate grant of €1,000, which can be combined with existing support such as MaPrimeRénov', will be paid to 80,000 low-income households for the installation of a heat pump meeting the best French and European standards, replacing a gas or oil boiler.

The second strand targets freight transport: €30 million of purchase support will be paid to hauliers converting diesel heavy goods vehicles to electric ones, up to a limit of two vehicles per micro-enterprise or SME. The average amount of support is €15,000 per truck.

The third strand aims to support the establishment in France of electricity-consuming industrial firms.

The underlying economic reasoning is explicit: by lowering the upfront additional cost of electric equipment, this support shifts the break-even point against fossil-fuel solutions, whose running costs remain exposed to market volatility.
