On 23 July 2026, the French Energy Regulatory Commission offered political parties a dialogue designed to inform the energy debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The approach starts from an observation: energy decisions commit infrastructure whose lifetime far exceeds political cycles. A high-voltage line, a reactor or a district heating network is planned over several decades.
The regulator proposes to make available its technical and economic expertise — costs of the various technologies, grid constraints, tariff mechanisms, investment timetables — so that debates rest on shared data.
The initiative comes at a time when several structural projects are under way: implementation of the third multiannual energy programme, the succession to ARENH, connection reform and the adaptation of grids to climate change.
For businesses, the stability of the energy framework is an investment variable at least as decisive as the level of prices themselves.
